Why I Quit Holistic Grooming
Let's make a long story short. Here's why I decided to stop offering holistic dog grooming services.
Last Sunday, I made a trip over to a potential client's house for a Meet and Treat and grooming assessment. Little did I know, this encounter would be the nail on the coffin for my grooming career. Since this client was a person my partner used to work with in the auto industry, I decided to cut them a deal and offer my initial meet and treat session for free. Since I make all organic, human-grade homemade treats for each appointment, there is usually a fee associated with this service to cover those costs and the costs of traveling. No good deed goes unpunished!
The dog in question was an adolescent goldendoodle whose grooming has been neglected for the majority of her life. When we first met her, she was terrified. She would jump away from us just for entering the house or walking through the apartment. She displayed a very clear sound and touch sensitivity and didn't seem to trust strangers at all. No biggie, as we deal with lots of dogs that display behavior like this upon meeting. Petting her was out of the question; she showed no interest at all. The guardians let us know that she's undersocialized and tends to be like this when new people come over. We thought maybe she's just a highly sensntive pup who takes time to warm up to new people. We were only half right.
